The heavy rains of the past few days have caused serious damage in Austria, especially on the A2 motorway and the surrounding infrastructure. The flood caused by the rains on Sunday evening completely flooded some sections of the highway, making traffic impossible in several places. As a result of the restoration work carried out early Monday morning, the A2 highway is now open again, but according to Világgazdaság reports, many exits and ramps are still inaccessible. There were also problems on other public roads in Lower Austria, where traffic is also blocked by closures.
A video shared by Austria's MeteoNews 24 of the highway deeply submerged in water shocked the public, highlighting the severity of the flooding. In addition to public roads, the flooding also caused serious disruptions in public transport. The Austrian railway company, ÖBB, stopped the railway transport between Hegyeshalom and Vienna from 18:00 on Sunday, as the conditions did not allow for safe transport. According to the company's statement, there is currently no possibility to replace the trains, and the shutdown is expected to last until midnight on Monday. While authorities work to restore infrastructure, motorists and travelers are asked to plan their journey carefully and avoid affected areas if possible.
