The construction of the second section of the M49 expressway can begin after the announcement of the results of the tender was published in the EU public procurement notice. The section of the 17.6-kilometer road is constructed by Duna Aszfalt, the total cost of the investment is HUF 141.9 billion. This section creates a connection between the Romanian border and the M3 highway, writes Magyar Építók.
The section between Ököritófülpös and Csenger, as well as the related plant engineering in Kocsordi, is also planned and executed by Duna Aszfalt Út és Mélyépítő Zrt. Thanks to the investment of the Ministry of Construction and Transport, the M3 motorway is connected to the Romanian border at Csenger, so the M49 expressway provides a connection to Szatmárnémeti and the Partium region. In the first phase, a 28.15-kilometer road section between the M3 and Ököritófülpös will be built, which partially includes the construction of a new Kraszna Bridge. On the Romanian side, as a continuation of the M49, an 11-kilometer section between Óvári and Szatmárnémeti is being built, for which the results of the public procurement were announced in January this year.
A four-lane road is being built on the second, 17.6-kilometer section of the expressway, and the total cost of this section is HUF 141.9 billion. The project also includes the construction of a two-sided axle weight measuring station, as well as the construction of a road border crossing on the Hungarian-Romanian border. The M49 will create a new traffic connection between Nyíregyháza and the Romanian border and Szatmárnémeti for a total length of 45 kilometers. The works began at the beginning of 2023 under the leadership of Duna Aszfalt, in two stages. Work is currently underway on the longer, 28.15-kilometer section to Ököritófülpös, and the Ministry of Construction and Transport promises its completion by the fall of 2026.
