Due to the fatal traffic accident on highway 431, several changes have come into effect in the traffic at the border crossings - the police informed the public about this. The accident happened near Kiszombor, and two people were trapped in their car, and were rescued by professional firefighters from Makó. The affected road section has been closed, so the Kiszombor border crossing is currently inaccessible. For travelers, the Nagylak border crossing is recommended as an alternative.
According to the Csongrád-Csanád County Police Headquarters, in addition to choosing the Nagylak crossing, it is important to take into account that the road border crossing in Röszke currently only operates in the exit direction in order to reduce the waiting time. Road traffic has increased due to guest workers returning home from Western Europe, which can lead to congestion at border crossings.
According to police information, motorists heading to Serbia must expect a two-hour waiting time both at the Röszke highway and road border crossing and at the Ásotthalm road border crossing. On the other hand, a waiting time of one hour at the Tiszasziget border crossing and half an hour at the Kübekházi border crossing can be expected. Travelers can obtain detailed and up-to-date information on the opening hours of border crossings and waiting times on the border information page of the police or through the Police Road Information System (Routine) mobile application. In this way, they can better plan their journey in order to facilitate crossing the border.
