The renovation and maintenance of highways plays an important role in ensuring traffic safety and comfort year after year. Regarding this year's works, László Szimicsku, the communications director of Magyar Koncessziós Infrastructure Fejlsztó Zrt., gave information to Világgazdaság. During the works carried out until August 1, more than 1.8 million square meters of asphalt pavement were replaced at 98 points in the country, including the high-traffic M1, M15, M3, M30, M35, M4, and M7 highway sections.
The total renewal area planned by the end of the year is 3.9 million square meters, with special attention paid to the M7 and M3 motorways.
For August, the organization has taken special measures to minimize traffic disruptions during the tourist season. On the M1 motorway and the section of the M7 motorway between Balatonvilágos and Budapest, pre-planned asphalting works will not be carried out in order to obstruct traffic.
Other sections of the motorway, such as the M1 between km 166 and 169, may still be subject to restrictions, but the two lanes will remain free to use. These measures are necessary in order to handle the increased traffic during the tourist season, which can increase to 50,000 compared to the 30,000 vehicles measured on an average Friday in April. During such periods, maintenance work needs to be rescheduled to ensure uninterrupted traffic. All in all, motorists should expect some disruptions until the end of November and the beginning of December, but depending on the weather, the works may continue even during December.
